When things are rolling along nicely, soccer makes us believe in the Great Beyond; but when they go sour, life can seem ruthless. In our daily lives we are victims of soccer caprice, and there are many opportunists who make a quick profit from it. Most just watch it run by in joyous, unattainable leaps and bounds.
